Our History
BroadbandVideo was founded in October of 2001 by Wally
Werner and Jock Mirow. Our experience in
streaming media dates back to 1997 with some early work while Jock was at MediaOne. As the Director of Creative Services, Jock was charged with creating
compelling new content that took advantage of the cable modems and broadband
access that MediaOne was selling. One of the more notable achievements during
that time was the first online Film Festival featuring about 30 short films all
made available exclusively to MediaOne subscribers.
These developments and others that followed, cemented the idea of creating
BroadbandVideo to serve the needs of the many businesses interested in putting
their video on their website. And our initial hunch that streaming wouldn’t
really take off until it behaved more like television has turned out to be
correct. We set out to merge Radio, Advertising, TV and the Internet all
together into compelling streaming presentations that would blow away text and
graphics alone.
Substantiated by being recognized as a finalist in the Denver Business Journal’s
2002 Colorado’s Most Innovative New Products competition, we believe we are well
on the way to our goal of bringing streaming media to the small and medium-sized
business market with cost-effective and quality presentations. These rich media
presentations now have the ability to monetize your streaming content through
commercial insertion, banner ads and other attributes to help offset your costs
and save you money while delivering your message to the largest audience in
history…the Internet.
Science vs. VoodooWhile it's true that we haven't been around as
long as some of those other big encoding and streaming
media companies - the thing that makes us special is
our ability to move fast in a world that changes at
the speed of data.
We look at streaming media as an evolving science,
ever challenging us to find new and interesting ways
to apply what we know to what we think might work.
The thing that makes streaming media different than
all other forms of development on the web is that
there are parts of it that still baffle even the most knowledgeable
in the field. We've come to call this the "voodoo
factor" - and that's where the real fun and
innovation come into play.
Because this stuff is 90% science ...and 10% voodoo!
